Whether you're a seasoned pro or just getting your feet wet, this solo adventure is tailored to give you a shot at landing some of the coolest fish swimming our local waters this time of year.
Picture this: You, the boat, and the open water. This one-on-one fishing trip is all about giving you the ultimate personalized experience. We'll hit the water early, when the fish are most active and the December air has that perfect chill. You'll have the full attention of your guide, who knows these waters like the back of their hand. They'll share all the local hotspots and insider tips to help you land that trophy catch. And the best part? It's just you out there, so you can fish at your own pace without any pressure.
We'll be using a mix of techniques to target our fish of the day. Depending on where the bite is hot, we might do some trolling, bottom fishing, or even some light jigging. Your guide will have all the gear ready to go – top-notch rods, reels, and a variety of lures and bait. Don't worry if you're new to these methods; your guide will walk you through everything step-by-step. The December waters can be a bit choppy, so make sure to bring a warm jacket and maybe a thermos of coffee to keep you toasty while you wait for that big strike.
There's something special about winter fishing that keeps folks coming back year after year. The crowds are gone, the water's crystal clear, and the fish are hungry. Plus, you can't beat the peace and quiet of a December morning on the water. It's just you, nature, and the thrill of the catch. Our regulars swear by these winter trips – they say it's when they land some of their most impressive catches of the year.
African Pompano is the star of the show on this trip, and boy, are they a treat to catch. These silver beauties are known for their fight and their flavor. In December, they're typically hanging around structures and reefs, looking for an easy meal. African Pompano can grow up to 50 pounds, though most catches are in the 5-15 pound range. They're fast swimmers with a lot of endurance, so when you hook one, be ready for a real tussle. The cooler winter waters tend to concentrate these fish, making December a prime time to target them.
But African Pompano isn't the only fish in the sea. Depending on the day and conditions, we might also come across some hefty grouper, snapper, or even the occasional cobia. Each of these species offers its own unique challenge and reward. Grouper, for instance, are known for their powerful initial run – they'll try to dive back into their rocky homes, so you'll need to be quick on the reel. Snapper, on the other hand, are all about finesse and timing. Your guide will help you adjust your technique for whatever's biting that day.
Look, I'm not gonna sugar-coat it – December fishing isn't for everyone. It can be chilly, and sometimes the fish play hard to get. But if you're up for a real angling adventure, one where you could land the catch of a lifetime, then this is your trip. We've only got room for one angler per outing, so spots fill up fast. Don't let this chance slip away – book your December Morning Fishing trip now and get ready for a winter fishing experience you won't forget. Trust me, there's nothing like the feeling of reeling in a big one while the rest of the world is still hitting the snooze button. See you on the water!
African Pompano are a real treat to catch. These silvery, round jacks can grow up to 50 pounds, though most we see are in the 15-30 pound range. You'll find them hanging out near the bottom in waters anywhere from 30 to 250 feet deep. Younger ones stick closer to shore, but the big adults roam far and wide. They're fast swimmers and put up a great fight on the line. We usually target them with live bait or jigs - they can't resist something shiny and moving. Spring through fall is prime time, when water temps are just right. Pompano make excellent eating too, so you might want to keep a few for dinner. One local trick: if you see birds working bait schools, there's a good chance pompano are in the mix. Drop a jig down and hold on tight!
